Matt Frazier – Songwriter

“An accomplished multi-instrumentalist [with] a sound that’s unique within the genre. Frazier hearkens back to the… glory days of singer-songwriters—melodic, sometimes introspective writing mated with instrumental acumen… a musician’s musician.”
The Local Planet (Spokane, WA)

“Earnest acoustic folk music that’s at once pleasing and challenging. Many of Frazier’s songs…can apply to most situations—universal quests for meaning in a confusing world. Others are note-perfect character studies [with a] mix of telling details and honest emotion.”
The Capital Times (Madison, WI)

“Out of the Shadows [is] very much a folk-oriented affair, with many of the songs featuring only Frazier’s guitar and… Bruce Cockburn-esque singing voice. A few of the songs… feature a full combo sound, with some rather clever arrangements [from] the tight backing band. Which is no mean feat when you play all the instruments yourself, as Frazier did.

Matt Frazier’s songs explore the deepest parts of our human experiences: oppression and triumph; sorrow and joy; loneliness and intimacy; pain and beauty. A few of them are just for fun.  The Wisconsin State Journal calls his music “highly reflective and introspective, whether he’s singing about the big questions of life or the small struggles of individuals.”  Matt’s written music for the Bravo network and several independent artists have recorded his songs.  He’s performed in small coffee shops, large arenas, and just about everything in between.

Matt’s extensive musical background includes a bachelor’s degree in music theory and a master’s in commercial music.  He’s led workshops on songwriting, musicianship, and music production and several of his songs have been sung and recorded at spiritual gatherings large and small across the US and Canada. Matt has performed on and produced musical recordings for educational and not-for-profit organizations.   A native of Louisville, KY, Matt now lives in Seattle.
